We are extremely happy to announce a new addition to the Ranka Clan, the melodic death metal group KALMAH!
This band needs no introduction. Formed in 1998 in Pudasjärvi, Finland, the band has become a pivotal part of the Finnish metal scene and the Finnish metal export. After their debut album ’Swamplord’ (2000), they have toured around the world and released seven more albums with great success. Ranka’s Riku Pääkkönen goes way back with the band as he signed them to Spinefarm Records in 2000 – and here we go again: This time Ranka has the honor of releasing their 9th album this May!
”It’s been a conscious choice to keep some distance from Spinefarm Records and former Spinefarm artists and establish Ranka as its own, independent label – no strings attached. However, having the opportunity to work with Kalmah once again was something that I just couldn’t pass on! They are such an interesting group and we strongly believe that their best album is yet to come”, Riku comments.
For the band this is also an exciting step. After five years from their latest release ’Palo’, the band decided to get back to business:
”We spent the last five years doing ’some real stuff’, yet thinking about how another album might be nice some day. Writing new music every now and then and finally getting all pieces together last summer, we decided to make it happen for real and sharpened our fishing tridents to enter the studio. And above all, we were able to get the recording deal with Ranka, a Finnish label so it is always great to work with a national team.”
And straight back to business it is: The first single HAUNTED BY GUILT will be released on February 24th! Moreover, the band will embark on a spring tour across Finland starting in Helsinki on March 30th. Check out the tourdates below and follow the band on social media to get the latest news.
